Nuclear Luminosities and Radio Loudness of Seyfert Nuclei
نویسندگان
چکیده
Historically, Seyfert nuclei have been considered to be radio-quiet active galactic nuclei (AGNs). We question this widely held assumption by showing that the distribution of the radio-to-optical luminosity ratio, R ≡ Lν(6 cm)/Lν(B), when properly measured for the nuclear component, places the majority of type 1 Seyfert nuclei in the category of radio-loud AGNs, defined here as objects with R ≥ 10. This result is further strengthened by strong correlations found between radio power and optical continuum and emission-line luminosities, as has been established previously for more powerful AGNs. We also present a new calibration of the relation between optical continuum and Balmer emission-line luminosities valid in the regime of low-luminosity AGNs. Subject headings: galaxies: active — galaxies: nuclei — galaxies: Seyfert — radio continuum: galaxies

On black hole masses, radio-loudness and bulge luminosities of Seyfert galaxies
We estimated black hole masses for 9 Seyfert 1 and 13 Seyfert 2 galaxies in the Palomar and CfA bright Seyfert samples using the tight correlation between black hole mass and bulge velocity dispersion. Combining other 13 Seyfert 1s and 2 Seyfert 2s in these samples but with black hole masses measured recently by reverberation mapping and stellar/gas dynamics, we studied the correlations of blac...
متن کاملThe HST view of LINERs nuclei: evidence for a dual population?
We study a complete and distance-limited sample of 25 LINERs, 21 of which have been imaged with the Hubble Space Telescope. In nine objects we detect an unresolved nucleus. In order to study their physical properties, we compare the radio and optical properties of the nuclei of LINERs with those of other samples of local AGNs, namely Seyfert galaxies and low-luminosity radio galaxies (LLRG). Ou...
متن کاملOn the Relationship between Radio Emission and Black Hole Mass in Galactic Nuclei
We use a comprehensive database of black hole masses (MBH) and nuclear luminosities to investigate the relationship between radio emission and MBH. Our sample covers a wide range of nuclear activity, from nearby inactive nuclei to classical Seyfert 1 nuclei and luminous quasars. Contrary to some previous studies, we find that the radio continuum power, either integrated for the entire galaxy or...
متن کاملLow-Luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei: Are They UV-Faint and Radio Loud?
Low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are perceived to be radio loud and devoid of a “big blue bump”, indicating a transition from a radiatively efficient, geometrically thin, accretion disc in high-luminosity AGNs, to a geometrically thick, radiatively inefficient accretion flow at low luminosities and accretion rates. I revisit the issue of the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of l...

We study a complete and distance-limited sample of 25 LINERs, 21 of which have been imaged with the Hubble Space Telescope to study their physical properties and to compare their radio and optical properties with those of other samples of local AGNs, namely Seyfert galaxies and low-luminosity radio galaxies (LLRG). Our results show that the LINERs population is not homogeneous, as there are two...
